Partners 2.0 "Many Minds, One Heart"

Partners 2.0 is a system-wide initiative to find opportunities to enhance efficiency across the Partners system. The goal is to transform the way we operate across Partners to position us for success well into the future. The work focuses on three key areas:

  • Ensuring that patients receive the right care in the right setting at the right time. This is referred to as “systemness,” and it means that patients who do not require the highly specialized care we provide at the Brigham could be transferred to another hospital in the system more appropriate for the level of care they require, similar to how we work with BWFH.
  • Investing in strategic growth and finding ways to provide access to patients who seek our care.
  • Becoming a cost-effective delivery system and determining where we have duplications that may lead to higher costs. We want to become more efficient at how we deliver services across all of our sites of care.

Brigham Health President Betsy Nabel, MD, wrote a message to all staff in the October issue of President’s Perspective. “’Many minds, one heart’ is a theme in our mission-driven work, both here at the Brigham and across Partners HealthCare, so we’ve adopted this saying to articulate the sentiment behind...Partners 2.0, an inspirational and aspirational effort with the goal of achieving better health for our patients.”

Partners 2.0, at its core, aims to expand opportunities for collaboration among Partners entities. “While we’ve been connected for decades, in many respects, we’ve functioned in a disconnected fashion,” wrote Dr. Nabel. “Going forward, we must operate as a truly integrated system in order to evolve our role as a world-class center of care.”

Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Ron M. Walls, MD, and Shelly Anderson, MPM, senior vice president for Brigham Health Strategy and Operations, spoke about Partners 2.0 during the March Brigham Management Group. Watch the webcast here.
